PREFIXOS E SUFIXOS
Veja:
oversleep (dormir mais do que o necessário)
overspeed (ir a uma velocidade acima do normal)
overload (sobrecarregar )
overflow (inundar)
overdose (dose excessiva)
overheat (esquentar mais do que o necessário)

Singular and Plural-Singular e Plural
Singular
Os substantivos ou pronomes no singular são tipicamente usados para se referirem a uma única pessoa ou objeto. O singular também pode ser usado quando se quer expressar um conjunto de elementos da mesma natureza. Exemplos de palavras no singular:
Waiter: garçom
Cat: gato
Apple: maçã
Pencil: lápis
Gate: portão
I, you, he, she, it: eu, você, ele, ela, isto/isso (pronomes pessoais no singular).
Plural
Ghosts: fantasmas
Bears: ursos
Happenings: acontecimentos
Rooms: cômodos, salas
We, you, they: nós/vocês/eles (pronomes pessoais no plural).

A talk with the doctor

Mr. Keith Smith is having an appointment with Dr. Judith Thompson, an ear, nose and throat specialist.
Judith: What's going on with you, Mr. Smith?
Keith: I've been snoring lately, Dr. Thompson, and this has been an unpleasant thing to my wife.
Judith: Has your wife told you about your snoring or have you woken up with apnea?
Keith: Apnea? What is this?
Judith: It's a temporary absence or a cessation of breathing. Have you had this during your sleep?
Keith: Yes, once in a while, yes.
Judith: Curious... Everything seems absolutely normal. Have you had changed your habits recently?
Keith: Well, I've been eating more than usual at dinner time. That has increased my weight in six kilos.
Judith: Hmmmm... Obesity, enlarged tonsils, chronic nasal congestion, and congenital physical abnormalities are the possible causes of snoring.
Keith: Do you think I'm an obese person? Not yet, but you've got to be careful. What do you mean?
Judith: Try to reduce your eating impulses and keep a uniform diet. Your weight will decrease and the snoring will probably disappear in a few weeks. If the symptoms persist, I will ask for an X-ray of your face.
Keith: Do I have to take any medicine?
Judith: I won't prescribe you any medicine.
Keith: Oh, thank God it's nothing serious. Thank you, Dr. Thompson.
Judith: Don't mention it.

English, seeds of speech In the near future.
1.5 billion people, a quarter of the world the population will speak English. For 1.1 billion, it will a second or third language. English is rapidly becoming a language for business, science and popular culture. Three quarters of the world's mail and 80% of the electronic mail on the Internet use English.
There aren't linguistic reasons for this global dominance of English. The grammar is difficult, the pronunciation eccentric, and the spelling peculiar. Maybe the reason is the flexibility of the English language which incorporates words from more than 150 different languages. As English spreads across Australia, Asia and Africa, it will invariably be transformed - even subverted. Perhaps English will fragment into different languages as Latin fragmented into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and other languages 1,500 years ago.
Staying alive
Staying alive
How are you living? What are you doing to stay healthy? Are you not eating and sleeping accordingly? Are you working and worrying too much? Aren't you exercising? Even being very useful, these questions are often boring to answer.
If you are taking care of your life, congratulations! But if you are smoking cigarettes, cigars or pipes; making use of drugs like pot, cocaine or crack; drinking alcoholic beverages in excess; eating too much and sleeping late, my sympathies!* You are entering the roll of people facing actual risky factors.
Your chances of a long and healthy life are not many. At least, these are some of the medical conclusions all over the world.

Dear Mrs. Thompson
I don't think Laura has a bad memory for languages. She is a bright student. Maybe your daughter lacks interest or she doesn't like the subject for one reason or another. Perhaps she is studying at a wrong time of the day. You say that she "tries to study". Why doesn't she really study? I mean, study and not try to. Sometimes people pretend to study, but unconsciously they don't pay attention to what they are doing. Ask Laura to talk to her teacher before it is late.

Bob Marley Biography (1945–1981)

Singer, musician, songwriter. Born on February 6, 1945, in Jamaica. Bob Marley helped introduce reggae music to the world and remains one of its most beloved artists to this day. The son of a black teenage mother and much older, later absent white father, he spent his early years in the rural village known as Nine Miles in the parish of St. Ann.
One of his childhood friends in St. Ann was Neville "Bunny" O'Riley Livingston. Attending the same school, the two shared a love of music. Bunny inspired Bob to learn to play the guitar. Later Livingston's father and Marley's mother became involved, and they all lived together for a time in Kingston, according to Christopher John Farley's Before the Legend: The Rise of Bob Marley.
Arriving in Kingston in the late 1950s, Marley lived in Trench Town, one of the city's poorest neighborhoods. He struggled in poverty, but he found inspiration in the music around him. Marley liked such artists as Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, and the Drifters.
Marley went to the United States where his mother was now living. However, before he left, he married Rita Anderson on February 10, 1966.
After eight months, Marley returned to Jamaica. He reunited with Livingston and McIntosh to form the Wailers. Around this time, Marley was exploring his spiritual side and developing a growing interest in the Rastafarian movement. Both religious and political, the Rastafarian movement started in Jamaica in 1930s and drew its beliefs from many sources, including Jamaican-born black nationalist Marcus Garvey, the Old Testament, and their African heritage and culture.
Monarchies

There are still some monarchies all over the world. However, not so many as there were in the distant past.
In a monarchy there is a sovereign such as a king, a queen, an emperor or an empress- in short- a monarch.
There was a time when monarchies were absolute. Nowadays, they are often limited by a constitution, that is, the king or queen is the sovereign but the parliament is responsible for the real government.
One of the most ancient and famous monarchies in the world is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The countries of the United Kingdom are: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (or Ulster).
Among the British people there is some criticism about the empire, but even this is part of a millenary tradition.
