REGRAS ENTRE INGLÊS E PORTUGUÊS

Regra 1

Para todas as palavras em português que terminem em "DADE" (como a palavra CI-DADE) retire o "DADE" e coloque em seu lugar "TY" e assim CIDADE passou a ser CITY.

SIMPLICIDADE ------ SIMPLICITY
NATURALIDADE ---- NATURALITY
CAPACIDADE -------- CAPACITY

Regra 2

Para todas as palavras em português que terminem em “ÇÃO” (como a palavra NA-ÇÃO) tire fora o “ÇÃO” e coloque em seu lugar “TION” e assim a palavra NAÇÃO passou a ser NATION.

SIMPLIFICAÇÃO ------- SIMPLIFICATION
NAÇÃO ------------------ NATION
OBSERVAÇÃO ---------- OBSERVATION
NATURALIZAÇÃO ----- NATURALIZATION
SENSAÇÃO ------------- SENSATION

Regra 3

Para os advérbios terminados em “MENTE” (como a palavra NATURALMENTE), tire o “MENTE” e em seu lugar coloque “LLY” (e assim a palavra passou a ser NATURALLY. Quando o radical em português termina em “L”, como na palavra TOTALMENTE, acrescente apenas “LY”). Veja agora abaixo algumas delas:

ORALMENTE ----------- ORALLY

Regra 4

Para as palavras terminadas em “ÊNCIA” (como no caso de ESSÊNCIA), tire o “ÊNCIA” e em seu lugar coloque “ENCE”. Eis algumas delas abaixo:

ESSÊNCIA --------- ESSENCE
REVERÊNCIA ----- REVERENCE
FREQÜÊNCIA ----- FREQUENCE
ELOQÜÊNCIA ----- ELOQUENCE

Regra 5

Para as palavras terminadas em “AL” (como na palavra GENERAL) não mude nada, escreva exatamente como está em português e ela sai a mesma coisa em inglês.

A talk with the doctor



Mr. Keith Smith is having an appointment with Dr. Judith Thompson, an ear, nose and throat specialist.
Judith: What's going on with you, Mr. Smith?
Keith: I've been snoring lately, Dr. Thompson, and this has been an unpleasant thing to my wife.
Judith: Has your wife told you about your snoring or have you woken up with apnea?
Keith: Apnea? What is this?
Judith: It's a temporary absence or a cessation of breathing. Have you had this during your sleep?
Keith: Yes, once in a while, yes.
Judith: Curious... Everything seems absolutely normal. Have you had changed your habits recently?
Keith: Well, I've been eating more than usual at dinner time. That has increased my weight in six kilos.
Judith: Hmmmm... Obesity, enlarged tonsils, chronic nasal congestion, and congenital physical abnormalities are the possible causes of snoring.
Keith: Do you think I'm an obese person? Not yet, but you've got to be careful. What do you mean?
Judith: Try to reduce your eating impulses and keep a uniform diet. Your weight will decrease and the snoring will probably disappear in a few weeks. If the symptoms persist, I will ask for an X-ray of your face.
Keith: Do I have to take any medicine?
Judith: I won't prescribe you any medicine.
Keith: Oh, thank God it's nothing serious. Thank you, Dr. Thompson.
Judith: Don't mention it.

English, seeds of speech In the near future.


1.5 billion people, a quarter of the world the population will speak English. For 1.1 billion, it will a second or third language. English is rapidly becoming a language for business, science and popular culture. Three quarters of the world's mail and 80% of the electronic mail on the Internet use English.
There aren't linguistic reasons for this global dominance of English. The grammar is difficult, the pronunciation eccentric, and the spelling peculiar. Maybe the reason is the flexibility of the English language which incorporates words from more than 150 different languages. As English spreads across Australia, Asia and Africa, it will invariably be transformed - even subverted. Perhaps English will fragment into different languages as Latin fragmented into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and other languages 1,500 years ago.

Staying alive

How are you living? What are you doing to stay healthy? Are you not eating and sleeping accordingly? Are you working and worrying too much? Aren't you exercising? Even being very useful, these questions are often boring to answer.
If you are taking care of your life, congratulations! But if you are smoking cigarettes, cigars or pipes; making use of drugs like pot, cocaine or crack; drinking alcoholic beverages in excess; eating too much and sleeping late, my sympathies!* You are entering the roll of people facing actual risky factors.
Your chances of a long and healthy life are not many. At least, these are some of the medical conclusions all over the world.
